Notes:

Charles BENTON was born in Northampton in 1819 and was baptised in the Wesleyan Methodist church in the parish of All Saints. He married Jane Church in September 1841 in Northampton. On the certificate, Charles Benton is shown as a Bachelor of "full age" living at Horse Market, Northampton. His occupation is listed as Shoemaker. Jane Church is shown as a 19 year old Spinster also living at Horse Market, Northampton. Her occupation is listed as Shoemaker and her father's name is William Church, also a Shoemaker. The ceremony was conducted by Robert Bell, Curate of All Saints Church in the presence of Charles' father Thomas Benton and his sister Ann. Charles and his young family moved to Finsbury in London shortly after the birth of his first child Ann. He worked in London as a self employed Shoemaker for a several years before returning to Northampton. He and his family are shown to be living at 5 Camden Court, St. Luke's Old Street in the borough of Finsbury in the 1851 census.

He is thought to have died in Northampton at the age of 50 in 1869.
