Thomas BODDINGTON
Notes:Thomas BODDINGTON came from three generations of
cobblers, "lasters" and "welt-sewers" employed in the shoe-making industry that
flourished in Northampton after the beginning of the 19th Century. He broke away
from family tradition however, and left Northampton to become a career soldier,
enlisting in the Royal (Field) Artillery at the age of 17. Events:1. He appeared on the UK Census of 1911 in Northampton, Northamptonshire, England. 5 2. He enlisted in the Royal (Field) Artillery on 2 Jun 1920 in Northampton, Northamptonshire, England. 7 3. He served in the Royal (Field) Artillery from 1920 to 1933 in the UK and India 6 4. He was awarded the North West Frontier Medal (India) and clasp, in 1928-1938 in Fort Sandeman and Landi Khotal. 5. He transferred to the India Unattached List, with the rank of WOII (Sub-Conductor) in Jul 1932 in Madras, (Chennai) Tamil Nadu, India. 6. He was promoted WOI (Conductor) and seconded to the Indian Army in 1933. 7. He served in the Indian Army on secondment to the Royal Indian Army Service Corps from 1933-1948 in India and Burma 8. He was awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (India) in 1939 in Quetta, Balochistan, Pakistan. 9. He was commissioned Leiutenant (RIASC) in January 1939 at Quetta, Balochistan, Pakistan. 10. He was formally discharged with pension from his parent regiment, Royal Artillery upon completion of indentured service in February 1942. 11. He served with the IVth Corps in Burma and Assam, (Gahauti and Shillong) from 1942-1944. 12. He was awarded the General Service Medal 1939-1945 (Burma and India) in Dec 1945 in Gauhati, Assam, India. 13. He was repatriated to the United Kingdom (ex India via Troopship "Empire Ken") in Nov 1949. 14. He retired from the Army with the rank of Major in Aug 1950 in Coventry, Warwicks, England. Thomas married Dorothy May INGRAM, daughter of Alfred George INGRAM and Ellen Millicent BULLOCK, on 9 Feb 1932 in St Mary's Church, Fort St. George, Madras (Chenai) Tamil Nadu, India.1 2 (Dorothy May INGRAM was born on 9 Aug 1910 in Quetta, Balochistan, Pakistan 8, christened on 27 Aug 1910 in St. Mary's Church, Quetta, Baluchistan, Pakistan,9 died on 31 Dec 1994 in Stavely House Rest Home, Coventry, Warwicks, England and was cremated on 7 Jan 1995 in Canley, Coventry, Warwicks, England.) |
