Notes:

Thomas BODDINGTON came from three generations of cobblers, "lasters" and "welt-sewers" employed in the shoe-making industry that flourished in Northampton after the beginning of the 19th Century. He broke away from family tradition however, and left Northampton to become a career soldier, enlisting in the Royal (Field) Artillery at the age of 17.

His Brigade was posted to India in 1922 and assigned to the 4th (Quetta) Division. He saw service on the North West Frontier at Fort Sandeman, Landikotal, Khaybar and elsewhere along the Baluchi and Afghan border. The Brigade was later relieved of frontier duties and moved to Wellington in present day Tamil Nadu, south India, where he met and married Dorothy May Ingram.

After attending language courses in Hindi and Urdu, he transferred to the India Unattached List with the rank of Sub-Conductor, (Warrant Officer) and subsequently joined the Royal Indian Army Service Corps. He then returned to the North West Frontier provinces on posting to Quetta in 1936 and was shortly after joined by his wife and two sons. He served again at Fort Sandeman, Banu, Peshawar and Nowshera. His family accompanied him to Peshawar and Nowshera. He was commissioned in 1939 and moved again with his family to Karachi on posting to IV Corps Joint Supply Depot at Drigh Road. In 1943 he was appointed 2nd in Command IV Corps Joint Air Supply Contingent in Guwahati, Assam and saw active service during the Burma Campaign of 1944-1945.

After the war, he returned to Karachi and was appointed Commanding Officer of the Supply Depot at Drigh Road, now under command and control of the Pakistan Army Service Corps. He remained in the post until completion of his secondment to the Pakistan Armed Forces, and was was repatriated to England in October 1949. He retired from the Army in the following year. After 27 years of service in India, Thomas BODDINGTON settled with his family at Cheylesmore in Coventry where he remained until his death in 1984.
