Here are some useful links for anyone wishing to research and publish their family histories or get in touch with other family researchers. If you are a visiting relative and would like us to include a link to your own pages, please email me with your URL and a short description of your family site.

  • The Federation of Family History Societies [FFHS] - a good place to start....
    The FFHS has details on how to begin your Family History. There are a lots of sound tips including how to use the General Records Office, (GRO) services and loads of Q&A relating to research on this Federation website.

  • INDIA OFFICE Family History Search
    A Department of the British Library, the India Office Family History Search provides details on the genealogy, births, baptisms, marriages, deaths, burials, and other life events of British and European people in India, and others connected with the history of the British in India from 1600 to 1949 . Most, if not all of these records have been transcribed and indexed, and are available on-line, (see FamilySearch and Findmypast below).

  • The National Archives.
    Formerly the Public Records Office. Loads of online information.

  • Free Births, Marriages and Deaths (FreeBMD) FreeBMD is an ongoing project, the aim of which is to transcribe the Civil Registration index of births, marriages and deaths for England and Wales, and to provide free Internet access to the transcribed records. It is a part of the FreeUKGEN family, which also includes FreeCEN (Census data) and FreeREG (Parish Registers). The transcribers are all volunteers.

  • Ancestry.com - discover your family story...
    With more than 5 billion names and 4,000 searchable databases, Ancestry.com is one of the premier online sources for family history information and is said to include the web's largest collection of historical records. Most of the indexes are freely searchable, but access to the actual records is by subscription or by a "pay as you view" fee. In addition to it's own commercial enterprise, Ancestry.com generously sponsors other non-profit genealogical initiaves including FreeUKGen and RootsWeb.

  • FamilySearch - search for your ancestors....
    The largest collection of free family history, family tree and genealogy records in the world. This huge database known as the International Genealogy Index, (IGI) is maintained by the Church of the Latter Day Saints. Over the years, the LDS has microfilmed literally millions of records of interest to the genealogist worldwide, including all of the Ecclesiastical Returns held by the India Office (now part of the British Library). Many of these records have been indexed by volunteers and are published here.

  • Findmypast - "For over a decade Findmypast has been bringing the past to life for millions of members across the globe. With over 4 billion records and 11 million historic newspaper pages to explore, Findmypast is the best place to discover your family’s story". Findmypast has also transcribed and indexed the Ecclesiastical Returns held in the British Library. It is free to search their catalogues and indexes on-line, but transcribed records and images are available only by subscription or for a fee.

  • Rootsweb World Connect
    Submit your family tree to World connect and find others with the similar family interests. There are more than 460 million names on file.

  • Families in British India Society (FIBIS)
    The society was formed in November 1998 to provide a resource for people researching families and their social history in India from 1600 until the present day. 'India' includes: the Republic of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Burma as well as any area including, Persia and the Persian Gulf, Afghanistan, the Philippines, Malaya, etc., that was covered by the East India Company or was formerly ruled by the India Department. Membership costs from £15 per year. The Society has comprehensive and growing databases of transcribed records from many sources and repositories. They can be freely searched online by both members and non-members. The transcribers are all volunteers.

  • Boddington-Family
    These pages, expertly constructed by Tim Boddington, "...will provide the focal point for all people with the family name of Boddington, as well as those ladies who were brought up as Boddington's but lost the name on marriage. And, of course, those whose mothers or grand mothers were Boddingtons". Tim's site also contains interesting historical notes and discussion on the origins of the name.

  • The Ingram Family (UK/NZ)
    Here are the excellent family pages of distant cousin, Rona Langston (nêe INGRAM) whose ancestors left their home in Southend-on-Sea, Essex for a new life and new prospects in New Zealand. Today there are seven generations living there on the South Island. Her pages are full of interesting stuff and there are lots of pictures, too.
