Notes:

John BODDINGTON was born in Pertenhall, Bedfordshire in 1781 and is believed to have moved to Old Weston with his parents some time before 1800. He married Elizabeth LIMER in All Saint's church, Sawtry St. Judith in April 1804. The transcribed extract from the register describes him as "John Boddington of the Parish of Old Weston".

According to information lodged at the Society of Genealogists in London, John BODDINGTON saw action on the battlefield of Waterloo in 1815. Thankfully he survived the battle and returned home to his family in Pertenhall without injury. It is not stated in which Regiment he served, but it would seem that he did not volunteer for a soldier! The extract from the family Bible of Thomas, (his youngest son) and Susan BODDINGTON transcribed by William DUNKLEY reads as follows:..." Born 1782 at Pertenhall, Beds. Labourer of Old Weston, Huntingdon. He was seized by the Press Gang during the Napoleonic Wars and present at the Battle of Waterloo. He returned home uninjured and in his late life found refuge in the almshouses at Barnwell St Andrews near Oundle, Northants, founded by Nicholas Lathom who died in 1621. Was living at Old Weston in 1851. Died 26 April 1857, aged 76. Buried 30 April 1857."... 3 4

The 1851 Census return for Huntingdonshire shows him to be living with his wife Elizabeth at an unspecified address in Old Weston. His age is shown at 70 and he is described as a 'pauper'. His name is spelled with one "d". 5
