Thomas BODDINGTON was born in the tiny village of Carlton, in the fertile valley of the Great Ouse in Bedfordshire. Like his father before him, he would have been an agricultural worker employed by one of the wealthy country estates or manor farms in the area. He married Mary WELLS "of Odell" in the church of St. Mary the Virgin in Carlton. He died at the ripe old age of 79 having fathered eleven children. The entry in the Church Register of Burials reads:..." Tho Boddington, sen., in the 80th year of his age".
