It will be noted that husband and wife appear to have the same surname. This is not a mistake. The transcripts of the Register of Marriages for Carlton clearly shows Elizabeth's maiden name as BO(D)DINGTON. It is thought that they may have been so-called "cross cousins", unions between whom were quite commonplace and not apparently considered incestuous in those days. However, so far no evidence has been found to support this theory.

Sadly, all their children except the eldest Mary, died either at birth or very shortly afterwards. Three of them, not having been baptised, were buried "without the Service". It also seems that Elizabeth herself died giving birth to their sixth child William. The child lived on for another for another two months. Their first daughter Mary survived until her eighth birthday.

Elizabeth married Robert BODDINGTON, son of Thomas BODDINGTON and Elizabeth BUNDY, on 15 Mar 1714 in the Church Of St. Mary The Virgin, Carlton, Bedfordshire, England.1 (Robert BODDINGTON was born in 1693 in Carlton, Bedfordshire, England and was christened on 3 Dec 1693 in the Church Of St. Mary The Virgin, Carlton, Bedfordshire, England.)
