Notes:
Robert BODDINGTON. It will be noted that husband
and wife appear to have the same surname. This is not a mistake. The transcripts
of the Register of Marriages for Carlton clearly shows Elizabeth's maiden name
as BODINGTON, (with one "d"). It is thought that they may have been so-called
"cross cousins", unions between whom were quite commonplace and not apparently
considered incestuous in those days. However, so far no evidence has been found
to support this theory. Elizabeth may have come from another family from another
part of the county.
Sadly, all their children except the eldest Mary,
died either at birth or very shortly afterwards. Three of them, not having been
baptised, were buried "without the Service". It also seems that Elizabeth
herself died giving birth to their sixth child William. The child lived on for
another two months. Their first daughter Mary survived until her eighth
birthday. It is not known what happened to Robert. He evidently did not marry
again and may have moved out of the district.
Robert married Elizabeth BODDINGTON, daughter of
Unknown and Unknown, on 15 Mar 1714 in the Church Of St. Mary The Virgin,
Carlton, Bedfordshire, England.1 (Elizabeth
BODDINGTON was born circa 1696 in <Carlton, Bedfordshire, England>, died
in 1723 in Carlton, Bedfordshire, England and was buried on 8 Aug 1723 in the
Church Of St. Mary The Virgin, Carlton, Bedfordshire, England 2.)
