Hendrik VERDUIJN is known to have sailed from Rotterdam on the Dutch East India Company, (VOC) vessel "Knappenhof" bound for Cochin (Kochi) in 1735. He is listed in the ship's pay-ledger as Hendrik VOORDUIJN, Junior Ordinary Seaman. He evidently remained in the service of the Dutch East India Company living and working in Cochin until his death in 1763. His tenure of employment in the company is officially recorded as having ended on 1 January 1764. 3
