Notes:

John BODDINGTON
first appears in the Census of 1851 at the age of 4. His father is shown as Thomas BODDINGTON, age about 29 born in Old Weston, Huntingdonshire and his mother as Susan, age about 28 born in Finedon, Northamptonshire. The 1861 Census shows him at the age of 13 living with his parents and siblings at 26 St. Edmund's Street, in the parish of Priory St Andrews, Northampton.

John married Annie BENTON in December 1865 in the parish church of St Edmunds on 24th December 1865. John is shown as a Bachelor, age 20 living at 33 Melbourne Street.

The 1871 Census shows him living at Portland Street, St. Giles, Northampton with his wife Anne and first two sons John Harry and Tom. He is listed as a "Shoemaker Riveter in factory" age 25. He is shown in the 1881 Census living at Gray Street, in the sub-district of St. Giles, Northampton with his wife Annie and three sons. The 1891 Census shows him at 35 Milton Street in the civil parish of Kingsthorpe, Northampton with his wife Anne, eldest son John H and his youngest son Charles and Charles' newly married wife Alice, both aged 19. Son Tom appears to have left the household. In the 1901 Census he is shown to be still living at 35 Milton Street, Kingsthorpe with his wife Anne, eldest son John H. and granddaughter Anne aged 7. (believed to be the illegitimate daughter of John Harry).

According to a contemporary historian of the Boddington family name he (John Boddington) was..."A bad sort - shiftless, has bolted enough drink to drown himself"... An additional note says ..."One of his sons keeps him". This last note probably refers to the eldest son John Harry who appears never to have married and remained in the family home for more than 30 years.

He is thought to have died in March 1929 at the age of 81.
