Notes:

So far, no trace of her birth has been found in district records for Essex. According to the 1861 and 1871 Census records, she is said to have been born in Romford about 1821. It is not known whether "Betsy", (sometimes written as "Betsey") was her given name or a diminutive of Elizabeth. She is mentioned in her father's will and is shown as the youngest of four children.
