Notes:

Susan (Susannah) BATES was born into a Methodist family in Finedon, Northamptonshire in 1822. She married Thomas BODDINGTON at the Church of St. Swithin's in Old Weston in 1841, Her father's name and surname are omitted from the marriage certificate. Susan had evidently learned to read and write shortly after her marriage, because she is known to have recorded the names and dates of birth of all her children in the family Bible. The list was copied by William Dunkley who married Angelina (aka Ann) Boddington. Although the bible is no longer in existence, a copy of the hand-written list is still in the hands of the Billings family, (descendants of Joseph Boddington).

She was widowed in July 1862 when her husband Thomas died of the small pox. She is thought to have died herself in Northampton in 1879 at the age of 56.
