Notes:

Thomas William took over the "Shrubbery Warm Baths" when his father died in 1863 and continued to run the business successfully until it was closed in 1879. He was among the first to introduce the "Floating Bathing Machines" to the Southend sea front. A recently published book "Seaside Entrepreneurs: Absaloms and Jaquests" by Carol Edwards (2010) mentions the Ingram family: Thomas (William) Ingram first ordered the construction of an "iron floating bath" in 1869 from J W Dudgeon of Fenchurch Street, London at a cost of £900. 3

1. He worked as a Waterman or "mariner" circa 1841-1865 in Southend-On-Sea, Essex, England.

2. He was Proprietor and Owner of the "Floating Bathing Machines" on the foreshore by Southend Pier from 1860 to 1903. (See pictures) 3


Thomas married Jane JARVIS, daughter of William JARVIS and Jane, circa 1865 in Rochford, Sub-District Of Prittlewell, Essex England.1 (Jane JARVIS was born circa 1826 in <Woodleigh, Devon, England> 1 and died circa 1908 in <Rochford, Sub-District Of Prittlewell, Essex England> 1 4.)


  

Thomas William INGRAM died testate at his home in Grove Terrace, Southend-on-Sea on 16th November 1891. Probate was granted on 6th January 1892 to his wife Jane INGRAM, (née JARVIS) and his younger brother William INGRAM, "purveyor and manufacturer of aerated waters". His effects were said to be £1017 11s 0d.
