Notes:
William INGRAM (Jr) , after several years as a
Waterman or "mariner", is said to have become the "Master and owner of fishing
boats" (sic) in his own right. It appears that he operated out of
Bradwell-near-the-Sea , (present day Bradwell-on-Sea) on the Blackwater
estuary in Essex. He evidently paid several visits accross the channel to
Holland, because he is known to have met and married a woman of Dutch origin,
( Catherine ). Although they were said to have been married in
Bradley-near-the Sea in England, his eldest son Thomas was known to have
been born in Holland. Two of his other children may also have been born
there.
William is believed to have moved back to Prittlewell with his family sometime after 1785. He subsequently became proprietor and licensee of the `Ship
Inn` in Southend-on-Sea from 1790. From ' Ale House Recognisances
1769-1828 ' Rochford Hundred. 1
William married Catherine circa 1781 in
<Bradwell-Near-The-Sea, Essex, England>.1
(Catherine was born circa 1755 in Holland and died in 1823 in <Rochford,
